Description scarr 2003-12-23 22:58:30 UTC
After I login, I am trying to go to my Documentation project, but I lose my
Login status. I have tried this in Firebird on Linux, and Opera on Linux as well.

This means I cannot go into Forums, Project Members, or other location that
requires Login.
Comment 1 lsuarezpotts 2003-12-24 05:40:00 UTC
Scott, before I pass this on to support... keep in mind that the pages are staticized (nearly all) and
that it may seem that you are not logged in but you are.

that said, to confirm, you login then go to, say, documentation.openoffice.org/ and try to access,
for instance, the forums or membership but cannot?

I will test (but am domain admin)... and was able to access the relevant areas. Checking your
permissionss... for project Documentation, things seem to be in order and you should be able to
do the things you want.

So... some possibilities. You've tried this in all the Linux browsers; are you sure cookies are
enabled? that's required.

Second, have you tried the solstage2.sfo.collab.net site?

let me know...
it may be related to some other odd issues that users have experienced with access to key
features.

Comment 2 scarr 2003-12-27 20:37:00 UTC
solstage worked. I was able to login, and my login stuck when I went to
documentation.solstage.

I tried the ooo site again.
Logged in
From my Pages, I clicked on Documentation.
And when documentation.openoffice.org came up, I was no longer logged in.
I could hit the Back button, and continue from that page.
If I help shift, and Clicked on Refresh, I was still not logged in.

I am using Firebird on Linux. I'll try Firebird on Windows when I get back to work.
Comment 3 brat 2004-01-14 16:26:00 UTC
I am finding the same thing that Scott found. I went to My Pages, Logged in,
and clicked on "Documentation" when the page loaded, I was no longer logged in..
I also went and clicked on "QA" and was no longer logged in...

When going from My Pages to either of those projects I get logged out, and have
to log back in. There is no way to get into the forums from My pages because it
keeps logging me out.
Comment 4 brat 2004-01-14 20:21:28 UTC
I also wanted to let you know that Scott and I are running on different
Operating systems. I am running Firebird on Linux. I meant to put that on my
last entry.

Thanks again.
Comment 5 scarr 2004-01-19 17:28:47 UTC
I have found a workaround, but it doesn't work for everyone.

Since I have Documentation edit, I can click on that and then get into
Documentation & Files as well as the forums. But if I click on Documentation
link directly from "My Pages", I get logged out and can't get into anything for
the documentation project as a logged in user.

This occurs on Windows and Linux, no matter which browser I use.
Comment 6 guido.pinkernell 2004-01-19 17:47:43 UTC
I can confirm this. Logged in, went to the documentation project, where it says
I haven't logged in yet.
Comment 7 stx123 2004-01-20 09:59:29 UTC
Hi, please have a look at my message about "staticized pages" in
http://qa.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=dev&msgNo=2889

I hope it explains the situation.
You may check whether you are logged in by browsing to dynamic content like
"Advanced Search", "Membership", "DOcuments & files", ...
Comment 8 scarr 2004-01-20 17:25:41 UTC
If I refresh the page, I still am logged out. The problem is that I don't HAVE
forums. The other pages are there. I can get into Files and Members as a
logged in user from the Static Documenation page.

But I don't HAVE forums, because you have to be LOGGED in to have it listed on
the project page.
Comment 9 scarr 2004-01-20 17:27:26 UTC
A quick fix might be to make the Forums page available, no matter if you are
logged in or not. But that means some users may click on it without being
logged in. I don't know how that would mess with the page.
Comment 10 stx123 2004-01-21 15:43:50 UTC
Hi Scott, you are right, the forums link is missing.
But you could use the link
http://documentation.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectForumView
anywhere independent of the login status.
e.g. on html project pages.
Comment 11 scarr 2004-01-22 19:02:03 UTC
Keep in mind, this not for me. I know how to get into all the different
locations. I am thinking about the users of these tools.

At this point, forums are basically useless because noone would think to type in
that URL when they are logged in.
Comment 12 scarr 2004-01-22 19:04:18 UTC
I can add this as a Forum in the project index page itself, but that is not
usually where people look for Project tools.

I think this issue should stay open until a better resolution is found.

Comment 14 scarr 2005-03-18 16:31:31 UTC
I was wondering if there has been any fix or direction for this issue. It is
still very much of a problem.
Comment 15 grsingleton 2005-03-18 17:19:19 UTC
THis is a major problem. We cannot use the forums. The login to the
documentation project takes you to mypages rather than the documentation main
page. Using the back button on the browser or using the link on mypages to take
you back leaves the user, me included, thinking that login has failed. This does
not occur when logging into the porting project. Why cannot you afford the same
facility to documentation.
Comment 16 lsuarezpotts 2005-03-18 17:45:52 UTC
routing to support.
Support, please check to see if this behavior is limited to documentation.ooo or is genera (user clcarr
indicates it is not). I have not personally been able to duplicate this behavior as Domain Admin, and I
stay logged in.

This is a p2 but as it affects the work on the project merits immediate attention.

thanks!

Comment 17 scarr 2005-03-18 17:57:43 UTC
I have tried this with QA and User-Faq projects, and they both did not show
Discussion Forums, but if I clicked on the Edit link for the respective project,
then I saw the discussion forum.

I believe it is related to the cache. If it is a site that is hit frequently
without being logged on like User-Faq and QA, then you will see a page without
Discussion Forums.

The reason I say this is because I also run the WP project which is not hit that
often, and I can see the Discussion Forums link when I hit the page directly.
Comment 18 scarr 2005-03-18 19:09:32 UTC
Steps to Recreate:

*  Login to the site
* You should be taken to "My Pages"
* You should see a list of projects you are a member of
* Click on Documentation, or QA, or User-Faq
* Notice you do not have Discussion Forums, and at the top of the page it
appears you have to login again
*  Click on Mailing Lists
* Notice you will now have Discussion Forums available and you appear to be
logged in now.

Sorry if I was unclear before.
Comment 19 lsuarezpotts 2005-03-19 08:19:26 UTC
D'oh. I hadn't thought of that: that it is related to staticization. It must be. Website, for instance, is not
staticized; Documentation is (if you are logged in, you don't see yourself logged in, though in fact you
are).

What we can do is un-staticize you. I don't particularly recommend it. Rather, you might put a big link
to forums on the homepage.

best

Related: when loggin in, most of the time I do not wish to be taken to my
personal page. I'd rather stay on the page where I am.

Comment 22 Unknown 2005-06-21 20:10:20 UTC
Verifying internally the root cause for this and whether this is a problem in
the core product or instance-set related.
Comment 23 scarr 2005-06-21 20:32:12 UTC
If I can be of help, let me know.
Comment 24 Unknown 2005-07-11 23:42:14 UTC
OK, here is what I got on this.

"Pages that are staticized will always show up as they do for anonymous guest,
regardless of the login. This means the tabs, components, and login box will
look exactly as if one is not loged in."

This was already pointed out by Louis earlier. That being said, do you want
some of these pages to be un-staticized?

Comment 25 Unknown 2005-07-13 21:10:48 UTC
Could you please give us an update on the status of the issue.

Aarthi-Helpdesk.
Comment 26 scarr 2005-07-15 03:19:03 UTC
Could you set the project page as non-static? This should make the forums more
accessible to users of the documentation project.
Comment 27 Unknown 2005-07-15 18:37:57 UTC
Have filed an internnal ticket to our engineers. Will update as I get further
information from them.
